Hover, 2011, Audible Gallery, Experimental Sound Studio, Chicago, IL
A collaborative installation with sound artist Steve Peters. The sound is inspired by earwitness reports of the mysterious phenomenon of aural sound associated with the Northern Lights. The visual component consists of hundreds of lines of monofilament and thin copper wire strung overhead, streaking across the gallery and catching the natural light. This collaboration evolved from our shared fascination with light, emptiness and presence.
Things that Sting, 2010-2011
graphite on paper, 14 x 11 in.
A series of dense and tightly knit drawings that emphasize structure, repetition and random patterning. Different values or intensities of graphite line build a scaffold that hold an ethereal yet pulsating and unsettling mass together.
Thaw, 2007-2009, artist's studio, Chicago, IL
An installation of 4,000 strands of monofilament spanning 16 feet across on a slight diagonal measuring 9-12 feet from floor to ceiling. The monofilament is tied off to specimen pins nestled in mirroring 5.5 foot length wooden planks. The pin formation reflects a graph of the rise and fall in the water table of Lake Michigan over a 20 year period.
